If you’re an east coast dweller like us, you’ve probably been working from home for the last six months or so. We’ll be honest –its been tough!
While it’s been tough to find some consistency in the news and the world around us, we can still find a way to make working from home work to our liking. It’s been a matter of breaking and remaking routines left and right as tons of new changes are implemented. After you’ve set up the perfect space for a productive workflow, you’ll want to minimize distractions and get that to-do list done. Here are four simple tips to do just that.
You don’t necessarily need a room dedicated to being your home office. However, whatever spot you pick should be reserved solely for working. Whether it’s a dining table, kitchen counter, or even a full desk setup in the living room, it needs to be your workspace and nothing else. Keep that space clean and clutter-free to maximize your productive mindset.
Being home is certainly a different experience than being in an office, but it should be treated similarly. When you’re on the clock, avoid temptation to check social media, watch TV, or get some chores done. If you want to stay in a productive mindset, you’ll want to prioritize work during working hours.
It can be hard to get into your rhythm if you don’t have boundaries set for yourself. Try to follow a healthy pattern on your work days. Limit work to working hours, and compartmentalize the rest. If you had a brilliant idea after hours, make a note of it and save it for the AM if you can. As much as you need to be on point during work hours, you need to commit to your personal needs during off hours.
Just like in the office, there are plenty of small moments you’re away from your desk: having a snack, using the restroom, chatting with coworkers, etc. These moments area just as essential as ones at the desk, so make sure you find ways to do so at home. One of the greatest perks of working from home is that you can freely take a few moments to lay down and stretch out your back, for example. If you need it, do it!
At the and of the day, our way of life has been uprooted and adjusting is crucial. As much as we have to be on top of our game, we also have to allow ourselves to rest, relax, and recharge.
